The process
How Upwise Capital Loan Requests Work
An upwise capital loan request takes a few minutes to send; lenders then decide whether to offer you $500 to $5,000 and on what terms.

The Upwise Capital Request Process at a Glance
Sending an upwise capital loan request means filling in one short form; we pass it to lenders in our network, and any lender that may be able to help shows you its own offer to review.
We are a free matching service, not a lender. Lenders set the APR, fees, term, approval and funding time. You pay us nothing, and you are never obligated to accept an offer.
| Stage | Who handles it | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Fill in the request form | You | About 5 minutes |
| Match the request with lenders | Our service | Usually a few minutes |
| Review any offers | Lenders and you | Minutes to one business day |
| Verify details and sign | Lender and you | Same day to a few business days |
| Receive the funds | Lender | Often 1โ3 business days after signing |
Step by Step: From Request to Funding
The request process has five steps, and you can stop at any point before you sign a lender's loan agreement without owing us anything.

- Tell us what you need. Choose an amount between $500 and $5,000 and the main reason for the loan, such as a car repair, a move or a medical bill.
- Share basic details. Enter your contact information, address, income, employment and the identity details lenders need to check your credit. Answer accurately, because lenders verify what you enter.
- Get matched. We send your request to lenders and lending partners whose criteria may fit your amount, state and credit profile.
- Review any offers. A lender that can help shows its APR, fees, monthly payment and term on its own page. Compare offers side by side, or walk away at no cost.
- Finish with the lender. If you accept, the lender verifies your information, may run a hard credit inquiry, and sends a loan agreement to sign. Funds are usually sent by direct deposit after signing.

Soft vs. Hard Credit Inquiries
Checking offers through many lenders typically starts with a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect your credit score, while accepting an offer may lead to a hard inquiry that can lower your score slightly.
| Soft inquiry | Hard inquiry | |
|---|---|---|
| When it usually happens | When a lender reviews your request to see if it can offer | When you accept an offer and the lender makes a final decision |
| Effect on your score | None | Often a few points, for a limited time |
| Who can see it | Only you, on your own credit report | You and other lenders who pull your report |
| How long it stays on your report | Varies by bureau; not used in scoring | Up to two years, though scoring impact usually fades sooner |
What Lenders Do With Your Request
Each lender that receives your request makes its own decision: it checks your information against its criteria, decides whether to offer a loan, and sets the APR, fees, term and funding time.
- Verification: lenders may confirm your identity, income and bank account, and some ask for pay stubs, bank statements or a photo ID before funding.
- Pricing: APRs across lenders typically run about 5.99% to 35.99% (an estimate). Some state-licensed installment lenders charge more. Some lenders also deduct an origination fee from the loan amount. See how lenders set personal loan rates.
- Criteria: lenders look at credit history, income, existing debt and state rules. The eligibility requirements page lists what lenders commonly check.
- State availability: not every lender, amount or term is offered in every state, so the lenders that see your request depend partly on where you live.
How Long Each Stage Usually Takes
Most people finish the request form in about five minutes and some lenders can respond within minutes, but funding time is set by the lender and often takes one to three business days after signing.
These are estimates. Several things can push the timeline out:
- A lender asks for extra documents, such as recent pay stubs or bank statements.
- You sign late in the day, on a weekend or on a federal holiday, when banks are not processing transfers.
- Your bank holds incoming deposits before releasing them.
- Details you entered do not match the lender's records, which triggers a manual review.

What We Never Ask For
We never ask you for an upfront fee, a gift card, a wire transfer, your online banking password or your card PIN, and we never charge you anything to send a request or see offers.
- No legitimate lender in our network will ask you to pay before a loan is funded in order to "unlock" or "secure" it.
- We will not call or text asking you to read back a one-time security code from your bank.
- If someone contacts you claiming to represent us and asks for money or passwords, hang up, do not pay, and report it to us and to the Federal Trade Commission.
