About Our Upwise Capital Loan Service

We built the upwise capital request form so you can reach many lenders with one short request for $500 to $5,000, at no cost to you.

What Our Upwise Capital Request Service Does

People searching for upwise capital loan options reach a free request-and-matching service: we pass one short request to lenders and lending partners in our network, and those lenders may offer $500 to $5,000.

We are not a lender. We do not make credit decisions, and we do not set the APR, fees, repayment term, approval or funding time of any loan. Each lender that sees your request decides those things on its own, using its own criteria and the rules of your state. More than 13,000 people have used the request form to look for offers, and none of them paid us to do it.

What we do and what we don't

  • We do: collect one request, match it with lenders whose criteria may fit, show you how to review offers, and publish plain-language guides on borrowing.
  • We don't: lend money, decide who is approved, hold your loan funds, collect payments, or charge borrowers a fee for using the form or viewing offers.
  • You decide: there is no obligation to accept any offer, and you can stop at any point before you sign a lender's loan agreement.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make small-loan shopping less tiring and more transparent, so a borrower can see real offers, compare the full cost, and decide calmly without paying anything to us.

A borrower who needs $1,500 for a furnace repair or $3,000 for a move often ends up filling in five or six separate applications, typing the same details again and again, and losing track of which lender quoted what. One request that reaches several lenders saves that time and makes side-by-side comparison easier.

We also want every borrower to understand the trade-offs before signing. That is why our pages explain APR, origination fees and total repayment in dollars, not just monthly payments, and why we describe the common uses of personal loans alongside the situations where borrowing may not help.

How We Work With Lenders

We work with a network of 22 lenders and lending partners, including online lenders and state-licensed installment lenders, and each one decides independently whether to make you an offer.

  • Matching: your request goes to lenders whose published criteria may fit your amount, state and profile. Not every lender operates in every state.
  • Credit checks: checking offers through many lenders typically starts with a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect your credit score. Accepting an offer may lead to a hard inquiry, depending on the lender.
  • Pricing: lenders in our network typically offer APRs of about 5.99% to 35.99% (an estimate). Some state-licensed installment lenders charge more, so read the lender's disclosure before you sign.
  • Conduct: we expect partners to present clear loan terms, follow federal and state lending laws, and treat borrowers respectfully. If a lender falls short, tell us.

The full request path, from the first form field to funding, is laid out on our how the request process works page.

How We Are Paid

Lenders and partners may pay us when we send them a request or when a loan they offer is funded, while borrowers never pay us a fee to use the form or to view offers.

Because lenders pay us, compensation can influence which lenders receive your request and the order in which offers appear. The APR, fees and terms you see always come from the lender, and they are spelled out in the lender's own disclosure before you agree to anything. Our advertiser and lending disclosure explains the arrangement in detail, including a representative cost example.

Editorial Standards for Our Guides

Our guides follow four rules: plain language, every rate and payment labeled as an estimate, no lender input on what we write, and prompt corrections when a reader spots an error.

Each guide is written by a named member of our editorial team and checked by a second editor for accuracy, clear math and fair framing before it goes on the loan guides and articles page.

  • Everett Pemberton, Senior Personal Finance Writer — 11 years covering consumer credit, installment loans and household budgeting.
  • Marisol Calloway, Consumer Credit Editor — a former credit-union loan officer who now edits rate, fee and disclosure explainers.
  • Selena Brennan, Small Business and Household Money Writer — writes about cash-flow gaps for sole proprietors and families, with 8 years in bookkeeping.
